Besides coaching I have also gained experiences in psychological services, HR, teaching and lecturing at college level. I have been living in Norway for 4 years coaching junior and senior teams.
How will you contribute to develop our basketball program?
Teaching and coaching elite athletes in a brand new school - it is a definite challenge. My coaching philosophy is based on 3 principles:
- Be proactive
- Keep it simple
- Focus on the next play
I always encourage my players to be proactive rather than just react to the situations on the court. I emphasise the importance of decision making and keeping things simple. Last but not least young athletes need to be taught to focus on the next play. Regardless of how successful their last decision was they need to be able to pay attention and focus to the next play, the next situation on the court. I am aiming to develop athletes who are physically fit and mentally tough; players who can perform under pressure on the basketball court as well as in their personal life. I always try to create an exciting, challenging and competitive environment for the players.
I believe that it is extremely important to empower the players to be able to coach themselves. I aim to develop athletes who are able to take ownership of their actions on and off the court; who are responsible and trustworthy young people capable of making good decisions on and off the court.
